An intro to The Petal Project

My Name is Liesa.

So, for me, having my ‘hands in the dirt’ goes back a long way.  As a little girl, I was intent on constantly building towns and villages in the sand for my dinky cars and, somehow, lots of my Mom's precious flowers ended up adorning my creations, which I now remember as “landscaping”. Fast forward to buying our first home many years ago and of course we couldn’t afford a professional landscaper let alone the plants. I embarked on this without hesitation and created what was a very special first home and garden for myself and my young family. We then bought a smallholding and the garden was enormous… strangely, I didn’t find this intimidating either and again, got stuck in and created what, at the time, was my personal sanctuary but which others enjoyed and admired, too.

This is me!
This is me!

My love for gardening has now become more purposeful and has led me to my ever-present passion for blooms which I love to share with fellow flower maniacs, artistic floral designers, as well as for once-in-a-lifetime wedding days and the hospitality industry.  The rewards of the glint of pleasure in people's eyes and the crack of a smile keep me driven to grow a variety of unique, beautiful and varied blooms. I have a lot to learn, but have also chosen to formalise my skills by attending Erin Benzakein's intensive 6-week Flower Farming workshop, which has fuelled my drive to produce flowers in a meaningful and intentional way.

Being a bit of an “old bullet”, you will get old-fashioned honesty, a commitment to service and a heartfelt effort to supply a quality product backed by hard work and a lot of heart. Have a look at my Farm Plan for 2025 to get an idea of my choices of flowers for the current season and register to receive my regular updates on availability through the spring/summer season between September and April/May annually.

I'd also like to ask you to please extend some patience (and maybe a bouquet’s worth of grace) as I fumble my way through the world of digital marketing — I know my dahlias better than my dashboards, and I’ve had to rope in my tech-savvy daughters just to get this newsletter off the ground.

Last but not least, my big thanks to my family crew and their support, I couldn't do this as a lone Ranger. I also have a very big helping hand in my right hand man, Andrius who has been working in the dirt with me for over 12 years and Mr Peter Deane who has graciously allowed me to get stuck in to his land.

I'm so excited to be working with you.

With love and lupins,

Liesa Bellairs
